How does your garden grow?

I was weeding my garden the other day and it got me to thinking about growing and what it takes to grow.

Whether we are growing a garden or a business, there are similar activities we must do to bring in a good crop.

You need to plant the seeds, provide nutrients, weed the junk and bring in the harvest.

My garden had been planted at the “traditional” time in Central New York, Memorial Day weekend.

One thing to remember about Central New York, esp in the Spring & Summer- it can be 35 degrees one day, 80 the next.

No rain for days or even a week, then a downpour.

Or not. Maybe just a sprinkle.

The only thing predictable about CNY weather is that it’s unpredictable!

Between weather conditions and preparation for a graduation party, my garden was neglected.

So before I knew it the tomato plants are almost as tall as me and the weeds weren’t far behind!

So I’ve been spending every spare moment weeding……….

As we all know, when we don’t take care of things right away, the workload seems to double.

The same goes for business. If we let things slide, it seems that we can never get caught up.

Take email for instance……….mine is growing and growing….when my computer was down I went to the library a couple of times to do my business.

Since time is limited on those computers, I didn’t have time to delete all my junk emails. I opened what looked important and moved on. Now with about 1,000 emails to look over, YIKES! It’s like weeding that garden all over again.

And like my garden, I had seeds planted all over the Internet via blogs, groups and old free online ads. So my garden could still grow to a point, but I wasn’t “in the garden” to weed out all the new junk or to give it nutrition (new content, promotion, new learning experiences).

Now as I start loading all of my files into my nice, clean computer, I realize everything I have saved to help grow my business.

Much of it is now useless, like free online ad site links. I actually have the same information in more than one place- my attempt to bring some order to the chaos.

Good thing if you remember to delete the files you no longer need!

So now I’m weeding files as well…………..

Hopefully, it will bring some organization into my life and less confusion to my online experience.

And like my garden, my business will continue to prosper and grow, despite being virtually neglected for a week or so.

What do you need to be weeding out of your life today? How will it help you grow your business?

Just wondering.

What a fabulous analogy. And so very true. There are so many emails I flag to follow up on later and then when later comes I have no idea what I found that valuable in them. Truly I need to learn to process things in the NOW rather than delay and procrastinate.

I like the first point you made there, but I am not sure I could pratcially apply that in a postive way.
