That’s what someone “spelled” on my fridge with my grandsons magnetic letters. And I had to laugh….
After posting about my texting woes the other day, don’t I keep seeing mistakes in old blog posts.
And my mistakes are few compared to some blogs I see.
I mean, don’t they see the spell check?
I just now accidentally typed “comapred” instead of “compared”. Spell check no-no’ed me with the sqiggley red line.
Perhaps they have never been “called on it” as I once was by a fellow who actually emailed me regarding an online ad I had posted.
There was a very common misspelling- one that spell check didn’t catch, and either did I!
But the person who answered the ad caught it! And he wasn’t too nice about it!
And I used to be an A+ student in spelling…
That got me to thinking about those who really struggle with spelling…
So I thought I would share some of my strategies – although they are not fail proof (obviously).
1. Make sure your spell check is on. If there is no spell check and you’re not sure how to spell a word, write the word as you think it should be spelled in a word processing program, like Microsoft Word.
Most misspelled words are recognized by the program and will have a red squiggly line under it. Left click and it will show spelling suggestions. Hopefully there’s just one.
If there is more than one, pick one. Left click that and check the meanings. Are they what you meant when you were writing the word?
If not, try another of the suggestions.
2. Do a search- try Googling it! If you spell the word wrong, you will usually get a message that reads, ” Did you mean_____(correct word)”
3. If it is a common Internet term, go to: http://www.searchenginea2z.com/glossary/index.html
Go to the first initial of the word and look for it in the list.
4. Go back to your post the next day to see if there’s any mistakes you didn’t see when you posted. Often we don’t see our mistakes at the time.
Hope no one else sees the mistake before you!
