A few moments ago I was vacuuming. As happens when one is doing mundane chores and not near the computer- I had some great thoughts!
And of course, by the time I got here, I forgot half of them…
I was thinking about how the many ways we can share information.
We have speaking engagements/teaching, setting up a booth at events, fliers left in libraries, laundromats and gas stations.
There is the Internet, with Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, blogging, vlogging- the list goes on and on.
Then there’s the telephone. Cold calling, calling leads….
Which do you prefer?
I love the Internet, but I also still love the “other world” called “Offline”.
I am by nature a somewhat shy person, yet a 100 years or so ago (ha-ha) I stood in front of 100′s of government officials and news cameras to bring awareness regarding daycare issues.
I was also the Recruitment Officer (or some other classy title) for the ACM club in college.
I’m still trying to remember what ACM means!
I THINK it’s Association for Computing Machinists …I just refered to it as The Computer Club.
I referred a heck of a lot of new members.
I basically went classroom to classroom giving a short talk on what ACM is, how it can help them in their networking efforts, yadda-yadda!
I also promoted events we were attending or hosting.
I’ve worked and volunteered in many places where you need to be a “people person”.
BUT THE PHONE….
That’s another story…..
I hate cold calling people and I hate calling people from a lead list!
I have found that most of those people on lead lists never wanted to be there, or didn’t know that they would get 100 calls from 100 different company’s reps.
Back when I was doing a network marketing business and calling people who supposedly wanted a call… I was sworn at, threatened with arrest and had people crying… from frustration over the amount of calls they’ve receive!
I have since changed my business and changed my marketing style.
Now I only talk to clients, who have opted in to speak to me.
And 9 times out of 10, I have THEM call ME. Then I know they are serious and they cannot say I bothered them.
And we have a wonderful conversation, because we both want to be there!
So what is your favorite marketing style?
